I've pushed your patch enabling autogeneration of cardnumber, as well as a
followup to allow the admin to import patrons with no cardnumber when
autoMemberNum is off.

In the course of testing this, it occurs to be me that import_borrowers.pl
should respect the BorrowerMandatoryField system preference.
