It's stuck, its author does not reply, and IIRC there were perf issues (I
cannot find the numbers however). Here I am suggesting to not modify the
current system, only focus on problematic strings (those with several %s, ie.
TT tags).

But you are right, it's certainly stupid to do the work twice. But doing it
instead of nothing felt better, yesterday.
