this same bad UX experience we have from our customers libraries too.
Confirming this ticket but more from POV of Batch Modificaitons of items:

In our case this was mostly inconvenient for customers in batch modification,
it prefills date to today making librarians doing big mistake "pressing saving
by they used to have empty form" so they broke hundreds of records.
