In short (but I spent a few hours): 
News goes fine, the non-News stuff goes wrong.
If you have an EN and an NL record, it adds two Default records. The EN and NL
are not connected anymore.
This may lead to duplicating elements on the OPAC display too.
Also EN became default iirc.
I had to do a little bit more since I had customized news stuff too. So it made
no  sense to submit my fix.
