I am having the problem that Lucas is describing on 22.11.10 but my steps to
re-create the problem are slightly different:

-Set default messaging preferences for a borrower category
-Create a new borrower in that category
-When creating the borrower uncheck --ALL-- of the messaging preferences and
then save
-All of the default messaging preferences for that borrower category will be
selected after saving
