I would actually say this isn't an enhancement at all.. it's a regression fix.

Bug 19014 mentions exactly this sort of issue as part of what it was attempting
to resolve.

However, we need to be very careful we don't cause an alternative regression..
I think the auto checks need to be conditional to on top of them being moved.
