I'm fine with this change if others find it to be an improvement. 

There seems to be something about the switch to white-on-black in the new staff
interface that some users find difficult even though the contrast is high and
the text size didn't change.

We'll probably have to work harder to prevent menu text from overlapping at
smaller screen widths.
