If the value of the feature can't pass your smell test, I can't recommend that the user throw good money after bad into the re-engineering of the feature, indefinitely, to follow the latest architectural whims. They coded this in 2010ish, so you can bet it's always playing catch-up, code-wise.

Coded in 2010 and submitted to the community in November 2013.
