This was because a JavaScript error about MSG_IN_YOUR_CART not being defined was emitted, preventing further JS from running, including the one to load the Novelist content. Looks like the issues is fixed by Bug 11663. Nicole, please check which version your customer is on and mark this "resolved duplicate" of 11663 if they are pre-3.14.4. 3.14.5 is the version they're on.
