[Bug 35766] New: Allow staff to adjust privacy settings for patron
https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=35766 Bug ID: 35766 Summary: Allow staff to adjust privacy settings for patron Change sponsored?: --- Product: Koha Version: master Hardware: All OS: All Status: NEW Severity: enhancement Priority: P5 - low Component: Patrons Assignee: koha-bugs@lists.koha-community.org Reporter: cbrannon@cdalibrary.org QA Contact: testopia@bugs.koha-community.org CC: gmcharlt@gmail.com, kyle.m.hall@gmail.com Okay, right off the bat, let me make this clear. I am not asking for staff to control whether they can see patron history. What I am asking is for a setting to allow staff to set the privacy setting for the patron. We have need for our homebound patrons to retain history so that the check for previous checkouts works. Some, if not most, of the homebound patrons may not be tech savvy enough to go into their account and turn this on. We can default the homebound patron to retain this setting, but we have no way within the patron account to flip the switch for existing patrons. I am pretty sure this was by design. If it is of concern, a compromise might be to have a "Request to turn on history" email sent to the patron, in which they can click a link to confirm consent. Maybe also a reject, in which the link to request in the patron account would show the date the request was last rejected. Staff would have the option to request again, and if rejected again, the date would be updated. Thoughts? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. There are many patrons that will never log in to their account for whatever reason but want to have the reading history enabled. The work around I have used is to ask the patron if I can log in to their account for them, which may require changing the password to do so. It may be helpful to add a note field/log to track changes to this setting and who did it. I like the idea of asking for confirmation via email, but it runs into the same problem of not-tech savvy patrons, patrons who do not know their email login or patrons with no email address. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes. They just want the staff to help them. On the flip-side at our larger libraries, they definitely want reading history off unless the patron opts in. All of this is to say that it would helpful if staff could turn this feature on/off for the patron. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes. https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=35766 --- Comment #7 from Katrin Fischer <katrin.fischer@bsz-bw.de> --- I have some headache with this one. The feature was designed intentionally so only the user could change their privacy settings. If I set the field to unwanted, I won't be able to see the value it has in the staff interface, also it might create other problems as it's a used field still. I feel like this should be configurable in a way, maybe a pref like for some of the guarantor settings that we don't allow for staff out of the box either? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=35766 --- Comment #11 from Elizabeth Hoffman <ehoffman@plumcreeklibrary.net> --- Not having the ability to update this field for our homebound patrons is preventing us from moving from opt out to opt in on reading history. We would like the default setting to be Never, but can't move forward if the field can't be updated from the staff side. I don't think the email for confirmation would work for us either, due to concerns with less tech savvy patrons. We would like to have patrons fill out a physical form before changing the field, and would be happy to have an email notice sent out as an option. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes. We have it turned off by default and don't want staff changing it, because then it isn't left up to the patron. I do think that it should allow for the setting to be updated if the patron category is changed though. A workaround we use is that when we sign someone up for home delivery, we do an intake visit with that patron, and the staff member signs into the OPAC with the patrons and they update the setting together. This is also something we offer to patrons when they come in to the library. If it were allowed, I'd really only want staff to be able to turn privacy off, not on. But that's just our library. Other libraries in our consortium probably want the exact opposite. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes. You are the assignee for the bug.

We have privacy set to Default for our Books By Mail patrons, but if a patron changes from a normal Resident to Books By Mail, there is currently no way to change their privacy settings without logging into the Koha OPAC (which 99% of staff currently do not know even exists since we use Aspen). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes. Having the privacy setting change when the patron category changes would help with this issue. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. You are watching all bug changes.
