[Bug 43337] New: Make error pages static
https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=43337 Bug ID: 43337 Summary: Make error pages static Initiative type: --- Sponsorship --- status: Product: Koha Version: Main Hardware: All OS: All Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: P5 - low Component: Architecture, internals, and plumbing Assignee: koha-bugs@lists.koha-community.org Reporter: magnus@libriotech.no QA Contact: testopia@bugs.koha-community.org Target Milestone: --- This idea was mentioned in Bug 11581 back in 2014, but I think it deserves a separate bug now. We are battling all sorts of different bot-attacks, and some of these attacks result in *a lot* of 404 errors. When the 404 error page is generated there is a call to the database to find the admin email and the page is rendered from a template. When the number of error pages being generated is high enough, this can overload the server and make Koha non-responsive. It would be better if these error pages were static and could be served without querying the database and rendering the template. If we want to keep the admin email in the error pages we probably need to generate the pages initially, and maybe once a day from a cronjob or similar? https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=43337 --- Comment #4 from David Cook <dcook@prosentient.com.au> --- So I've been thinking for a while that we should do the *UserCSS and *UserJS preferences differently. Instead of inserting them into the templates, I think we'd be better off actually producing them as .js and .css files. We wouldn't even have to have them be dynamically created. We could have a hook where when they're saved they generate the files. Then you wouldn't even need to regularly generate the error pages. You'd just need them to be properly linked. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes. You are the assignee for the bug.
https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=43337 --- Comment #5 from David Cook <dcook@prosentient.com.au> --- Actually... this could be an opportunity to create a new *UserJS and *UserCSS mechanism and encourage people to migrate to it... -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
