I think the combination method is not quite intuitive for the end user, it is very powerful it gives you the chance of complex combination but I guess, that perhaps user will prefer a more intuitive way of combine searches.

Once you are able to select the old searches, I think they will expect to be able just combine and that's all, in the same way.than mering bibliorecords. What do you mean exactly by "just combine" ?
