It does a couple of things which I think work a little better: Limiting the display of private lists in the main lists menu to 10 but offering a link for more (like public lists do); grouping public and private lists under <optgroup>s in the add to list popup menu. There has already been some discussion on how to fix this, and it's under Bug 3523.
