How do you see that all works well?

Is the zebra server running? (ps wuax | grep zebra)

Are there any errors reported by zebra? ( look at /var/log/koha/koha-zebradaemon.err)

Have you done correctly the index? (misc/migration_tools/rebuild_zebra.pl -r -a -b -v )

On the other hand I believe that these messages should be sent to the koha list, no koha-devel.
