The mechanics of koha -> zebra auto indexing continues to seem obscure. Is
there any way to do autoindexing without recurring to the crontab script
/usr/share/koha/bin/cronjobs/update_items.pl?
You are correct there is an easier way. See the zebraqueue daemon, and associated control script: misc/bin/koha-zebraqueue-ctl.sh
