I'm all for closing bugs that no longer apply, either because they've been patched, or the code has evolved beyond them.

Closing bug reports just because they're old or not recently updated doesn't seem right to me.  Bug 2389, for example, seems like it's still relevant, even though no work has been done on it in a while.

Are we just trying to get the number of 'open' reports down?  Or to make some of the other canned searches return more relevant results?

I think we should certainly go through the 'very old' list, and mark those that are invalid as invalid, and those that are resolved as resolved.  Genuine, still-current problems should have their version updated at the very least (a more detailed entry, patch or test plan would always be welcome).

Does that mean that we "close" bugs not related to 3.2.x, 3.4.x and master?
Since there is no development anymore on other versions, I would agree.
If someone detects that the bug still is alive, (s)he could reopen and file it against the corresponding active release.

OK, after a few days thinking of it, I agree it's not a good idea.
OTH, I like very much what slef propose. So +1
Should we add this topic to next IRC meeting ? Or we just say "anyone
against this idea write here otherwise 'let's do it' " ?
