Hi, I do have an Koha installation that has a strange problem. The MARC Fields are not numerically ordered. For example, here are my 500s fields: 504 - BIBLIOGRAPHY, ETC. NOTE + - 508 - CREATION/PRODUCTION CREDITS NOTE + - 521 - TARGET AUDIENCE NOTE + - 522 - GEOGRAPHIC COVERAGE NOTE + - 524 - PREFERRED CITATION OF DESCRIBED MATERIALS NOTE + - 530 - ADDITIONAL PHYSICAL FORM AVAILABLE NOTE + - 533 - REPRODUCTION NOTE + - 538 - SYSTEM DETAILS NOTE + - 541 - IMMEDIATE SOURCE OF ACQUISITION NOTE + - 546 - LANGUAGE NOTE + - 555 - CUMULATIVE INDEX/FINDING AIDS NOTE + - 556 - INFORMATION ABOUT DOCUMENTATION NOTE + - 562 - COPY AND VERSION IDENTIFICATION NOTE + - 563 - BINDING INFORMATION + - 583 - ACTION NOTE + - 585 - EXHIBITIONS NOTE + - 586 - AWARDS NOTE + - 500 - GENERAL NOTE + - 501 - WITH NOTE + - 505 - FORMATTED CONTENTS NOTE + - 511 - PARTICIPANT OR PERFORMER NOTE + - 518 - DATE/TIME AND PLACE OF AN EVENT NOTE + - 520 - SUMMARY, ETC. + - 526 - STUDY PROGRAM INFORMATION NOTE - As you can see, the 500 field has a lot of other fields before it. As far as I can tell, this problem appeared without any change is the database. Anybody know how those fields are sorted? Could this be related to YUI? Any clue about this problem? This installation is using v3.0. Merci, Danke, Thanks, Gracias :) Eric

MARC fields don't necessarily need to be sorted numerically, especially for 5xx and 6xx fields. Some catalogers say the fields should be in tag number order, but others say that the 5xx should be in AACR2 order, or in order of importance (allowing for putting a field first if deemed more important than AACR2 order would have it). So, for video records, 538 should be the first note, followed by 546, then other notes. For 6xx, the order is of importance/relevance--the most important subject heading would be listed 1st and is often intended to match the classifications. For example, if a book is chiefly about United States--Politics and government--2001-, with some coverage (more than 20%, less than U.S. politics and government) of Presidents--United States--Biography, the 6xx would have 651 followed by 650. The system should not reorder the fields unless explicitly told to do so by the cataloger. I hope this helps, Bryan Baldus Cataloger Quality Books Inc.
