Hi folks, I'm still working on using Discourse locally so I figured I'd share my experiences. Overall, I like the functionality well enough so far, although it can be annoying to setup and develop against (ie for plugins). We should feel good about koha-testing-docker, because it works very well out of the box whereas Discourse's dev environment really expects you to be a solo programmer on a Ubuntu laptop with no other development projects. It's a bit painful. They also are so entrenched in their bespoke bash scripting around Docker that they refuse to use Docker Compose. It's sad. Anyway, I figure the Koha community would run up its own Discourse, but if we wanted to be lazy we could just use this: https://blog.discourse.org/2016/03/free-discourse-forum-hosting-for-communit y-friendly-github-projects/ David Cook Senior Software Engineer Prosentient Systems Suite 7.03 6a Glen St Milsons Point NSW 2061 Australia Office: 02 9212 0899 Online: 02 8005 0595
Thanks a lot David for your sharing. What plugin do you have in mind ? If we like the features of this software, it is worth doing the install work I bet. Best regards, Le 15/11/2021 à 20:04, dcook@prosentient.com.au a écrit :

Thanks, Frido. Oh I'm just writing a custom auth plugin as we have some software that integrates a particular way with our existing mail/forum software (ie phpBB). A friend of mine asked me abut a coding bootcamp that uses Ruby and I said that Ruby isn't used that much these days (Perl developer pot calling the Ruby kettle black), but here I am writing a plugin in Ruby heh. In the end, I didn't write my own auth plugin. I could get Discourse to recognize it, but didn't seem to register it as an auth provider. I went with a third-party plugin which achieved the same goal though, so I was happy enough. Wasn't worth spending more time on it at the time. We've just about finished our local setup. Just finished setting up the ability for people to create topics using email, and for replies to be submitted by email. Haven't really checked out how digests work yet. (One potential wrinkle is that Discourse doesn't like to send you email if you've logged into the web UI, so you may find your emails a bit inconsistent I think if you flip between email and the UI...) I think we're going to start UAT soon, and after we go live I'll have more info about user experience I think.
