Koha Master Running on Win32 Platform
For anyone who may be interested, I've the master branch of Koha running on Windows XP. I have documented steps which should be reproducible on the wiki [1] for anyone wanting to have a go at it. I'd love to see someone else be able to have a try. There are a few changes which must be made in to code. I will push my work up to my public git repo sometime this week so you can grab them there until I have time to submit them for inclusion in master branch. This is somewhat of a winding, long-term, no-definite-end sort of project for me, so if you want more, you're welcome to jump in and help. I'm not sending this to the user's list because it is by no means intended for general consumption and is still very pre-alpha. Many thanks to Curtis Jewell and the folks who maintain Strawberry Perl [2] for adding a number of key modules to help get Koha running under Strawberry. Kind Regards, Chris [1] http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Koha_3.4 [2] http://www.nntp.perl.org/group/perl.win32.vanilla/2010/01/msg196.html
Update: I've pushed a copy of my MSWin32 branch [1] and updated the wiki page [2]. I'd be interested in seeing someone attempt to duplicate my work. It is not for the faint of heart, it will take you quite a bit of time, and it is a thankless task... you've been warned. ;-) [1] http://git.koha-community.org/gitweb/?p=wip/koha-chris_n.git;a=shortlog;h=re... Hi: I would ARGUE the way of Embedded for Win32, is kind a VM on top of your system of choice, thus you can get the hardware support and the availability of such in a ROM or something like that, for instance, a Virtual box or so. Then I would pursue the cloud, with the same platform but be based on the network services available, like Google, etc. for high-profile and added value of koha. I think is worth to try to run koha but for the sake of comparison and proof of the concept good to see how this goes. Thanks in advance PS I don't know how perl goes with handy platform development, but C isn't still that portability true that you could port same basic core support onto any system, and MS porting is something hard, which I still can't see it isn't that hard as an Unix box, it could be worse. Anyway, if so, what is the next step for koha support perl6 and to the electric cloud, perhaps even rewriting while migrating? That's the way of easy of portability if I may say so. --- El lun, 17/10/11, Chris Nighswonger <cnighswonger@foundations.edu> escribió:
