Question about Acquisitions and 'Biblios in koha'
Why is it when I hit 'Go' in .../acqui.simple/addbooks.pl (after typing in an ISBN) I never get any biblios listed in the "Biblios in koha" table, even though the biblio with that ISBN is in the bibioitems table. However it works fine when I type in the title. Looks like a bug to me. Am I missing something? I'm running Koha2.0.0. PS. My Koha.biblio table does not contain ISBN column. Tomasz Kotula

Tomasz, are you working with imported MARC records? Some of them may have extra stuff in the ISBN tag -- like "1234567890 (pa.)" to indicate a paperback edition. (Which seems to me to violate the concept of a tracking 'number' and get it confused with information that should be in a note, if anywhere -- sorry, just one of my complaints about the sad state of MARC cataloging.) At any rate, such extra garbage will confuse the Koha ISBN search. I customized Nelsonville's import script to strip most of that stuff when the MARC records are loaded.

No, the ISBN column is in the biblioitems table. -- Stephen Hedges Skemotah Solutions, USA www.skemotah.com -- shedges@skemotah.com

Purely out of interest, what are Koha and other systems meant to do with a book that lists on its back cover separate ISBNs for different countries eg "An Introduction to the History of Printing Types", Dowding, The British Library & Oak Knoll Press, has "0712345779 (UK) and 1884718434 (US)" printed on the outside. Roger, I don't think I've ever seen anything like what you describe. (I always assumed the 'I' in 'ISBN' really meant "international!") Is this fairly common outside the US? MARC records let you repeat the ISBN tag. Koha doesn't. Stephen Roger Horne said: <snip>

the ISBN can be repeated like any other subfield if you set the field repeatable. However, the problem is that : * the ISBN won't be duplicated in non-MARC table (like in OPAC) * ISBN search won't work well in 2.0, but will work in 2.2, as the search package has been rewritten in CVS and every search will be done on MARC tables, even non-MARC ones. -- Paul POULAIN Consultant indépendant en logiciels libres responsable francophone de koha (SIGB libre http://www.koha-fr.org)
