Hi All After coming back home from the Koha conference and following developer conference. I have been thinking how productive and useful it was for the developers to be in a room together. Now as we are spread across the globe this is not able to occur very often, but what we could do is try to organise regional hack fests. I'm just throwing the idea out there at this point, without any concrete ideas of how it could work. Here in wellington nz we have super happy dev house http://superhappydevhouse.org.nz/ and I know this is based on the same idea in the US. One day, in a bar or a hotel or somewhere with wifi, that doesnt charge much, where developers can get together and throw ideas around. Anyway, it's just an idea at this point to see if there is any enthusiasm. I know that I plan to get together with Mason and Bob in Wellington, and whoever else is interested. Chris
I also think its a good idea as it will allow those who can't make it to the big conferences be able to get debriefs from those than can in a nice semi-fomal way Bob
I love it!! And would be willing to host one here in the Philly, NJ, NY area. --- Nicole C. Similarly, I'd be happy to host one in Florida at some point. Regards, Galen -- Galen Charlton VP, Research & Development, LibLime galen.charlton@liblime.com p: 1-888-564-2457 x709 skype: gmcharlt
Or in Wisconsin. I could also offer the chance for the developers to shadow actual library workers doing their jobs. Good ideas come from watching how software is used. Of course, we are not on Koha yet... -----Original Message----- From: koha-devel-bounces@lists.koha.org [mailto:koha-devel-bounces@lists.koha.org] On Behalf Of Galen Charlton Sent: Friday, April 24, 2009 8:22 AM To: Nicole Engard Cc: koha-devel@lists.koha.org Subject: Re: [Koha-devel] Regional Hackfests Hi, On Fri, Apr 24, 2009 at 7:31 AM, Nicole Engard <nicole.engard@liblime.com> wrote:

We'd certainly be interested for the DC area. We could host a small group depending on needs. Jane Wagner Library Systems Analyst PTFS Inc. I'm up for supporting this in the UK and I think either Manchester, Bristol or Liverpool in mid/late summer 2009 might work for us. What date was being thought of for Wellington? Maybe we could link them up over the net, although UK/NZ hasn't a big overlap in time. Regards, -- MJ Ray (slef).
