Hi all, Can someone explain to me what the new cataloging permissions for staff do? editcatalogue Edit Catalog (Modify bibliographic/holdings data) * edit_catalogue Edit catalogue * fast_cataloging Fast cataloging What does fast cataloging do - and how is it diff from the ability to do full cataloging? I'm asking for documentation purposes :) Thanks Nicole
I believe that is the ability to do a fast add in Circ - where you put in just bare information: Title/Author/Callnumber/Barcode - which then allows you to circulate a non cataloged item. I have not seen 3.2 yet or played with it to see all the functionality but from a Legacy system that is what it meant for us - then when the item was checked in there was an option to either delete it or send it for cataloging. Again I don't know how it was programmed for 3.2. David Schuster Nicole Engard-2 wrote:

Thanks David, I ended up delving into the code to find out that that is just the case :) Nicole On Thu, Dec 3, 2009 at 8:55 AM, David Schuster <dschust1@tx.rr.com> wrote:

Hi all,
Can someone explain to me what the new cataloging permissions for staff do? * fast_cataloging Fast cataloging
What does fast cataloging do - and how is it diff from the ability to do full cataloging? I'm asking for documentation purposes :)
It's the ability to add a record in the catalog from circulation, using a special framework (FA for Fast Add), without having the general cataloging permissions. It's a light weight framework with just a few fields, to add a document in the catalog quickly, just to be able to loan it right away at the circ desk. Nicolas
