Hi I'm trying to figure out how to block a user account so that he cannot borrow books. I've found a flag labeled "Borrow books" in Koha 1.9.3 but unticking it and applying doesn't seem to block the account : using the librarian account (super user) I still can borrow books for the specified user without any warning or message telling that the user cannot borrow books. Am I doing something wrong or should I report a bug ? Thanks Jerome

Hi Jerome. If you go to the moremember.pl page, do you get an option to modify the borrower information? EG change the borrowers name or address etc. At the bottom of the modify page, there should be an option to debarr (block) a borrower. Let me know if you get the modify option. I think there might be a bug in the template. Chris -- Chris Cormack Programmer 027 4500 789 Katipo Communications Ltd chris@katipo.co.nz www.katipo.co.nz

Hi Jerome.
I used to have such an option (to modify a user account) but, after a CVS update, the option has disappeared. When I was able to modify the user (before CVS update) there was no option to debarre a user.
If you go to the moremember.pl page, do you get an option to modify the borrower information? EG change the borrowers name or address etc. At the bottom of the modify page, there should be an option to debarr (block) a borrower.
The options I have now is to Delete, Change Password or Modify User Flags. In the Modify User Flags option I tried to untick the "Borrow books" option but after the changes was done, the user could still borrow books....
Let me know if you get the modify option. I think there might be a bug in the template.
I think so... Most of the fields present in the borrowers table doesn't seem to be configurable via the intranet interface :(

This "borrow books" means : the user can connect to the intranet interface and borrow books for other => the user flag is, in fact, a "librarian flags". Maybe we could rename it in templates to avoid mistakes ? Very easy. jérome, do you feel confident enough to do it yourself ? would be nice. Tell me when it's done, i'll confirm you made nothing wrong :-)

For sure it's a cut/paste a little too generous. chris, can you hunt it ? -- Paul POULAIN Consultant indépendant en logiciels libres responsable francophone de koha (SIGB libre http://www.koha-fr.org)

Ok but before I'd like to clarify things a little. I'm confused. I have three options in the modify user flags * reserveforothers : Reserve books for patrons. * borrow : Borrow books (the one I'm confused with). * reserveforself : Reserve books for self. If I understood correctly, the borrow flag is the librarian flag for the reserveforothers flag ??? Once I'm totally cleared off, I'd like to make the modification for sure :)

ALL options in this page are related to librarian interface. That's in the user main page that I want to change the link name. The "patron" options seems to have been cleared by a stupid cut/paste, they were somewhere else. The screen you refer to is ONLY for librarian. -- Paul POULAIN Consultant indépendant en logiciels libres responsable francophone de koha (SIGB libre http://www.koha-fr.org)

Paul: I think the problem is that none of those "flags" are functional yet. The _intention_ of the "Borrow books" flag is exactly what Jerome was looking for. If a patron does not have the "Borrow books" flag then a warning _should_ get displayed when they try to borrow books. However, at the present time, this is not done. Only the "superlibrarian" flag is used to limit access to the librarian pages. Steve.
Hi What should I do ? Opinions are diverging... Who's right ? Thanks Jerome On Wed, 2003-06-04 at 16:47, Tonnesen Steve wrote:

Cc to Chris, that is welcomed to confirm :-) (he's the best at circulation code for instance) Jerome Vizcaino wrote:

We both are wrong imho.
The Truth is somewhere else :-D the "borrow books" flag means "can this user enter the borrow-book part of Koha". Flags are tested when the template is called. If the user does not have the flag set, a nice "sorry koha think you can't access to this page". I don't agree it's not used. There are places where the checking is done on a wrong flag, but it's always done, as it's integrated in template opening. How are we supposed to check a borrower can borrow a book ? We look at borrower table, fields debarred, gonenoaddress and lost. the check is in C4/Circulation/Cirec2.pm, line 611 : if ($patroninformation->{'gonenoaddress'}) { $rejected="Patron is gone, with no known address."; last SWITCH; } if ($patroninformation->{'lost'}) { $rejected="Patron's card has been reported lost."; last SWITCH; } if ($patroninformation->{'debarred'}) { $rejected="Patron is Debarred"; last SWITCH; } It seems there is a bug here. -- Paul POULAIN Consultant indépendant en logiciels libres responsable francophone de koha (SIGB libre http://www.koha-fr.org)

Yep the bug is in the modify user page, its lost the area where you can set a patron debarred. Also the moremember template has a bug which is stopping the option to modify showing. Ill fix it as soon as i get a chance Chris
