I might be able to help
Yesterday I was reading through the "How can I contribute" section and wondering if there is anything I might be able to do (still to be determined at the moment based on my availability and such) to help out. I might be able to help out on the graphical side of things (ie. themes) and / or perhaps some of the work around HTML::Template. My experience with Perl has mostly been around HTML::Mason and HTML::Template. I am currently the part-time web technician for the City of Port Moody and their existing site was ported over to Apache and Mason over a year ago (http://www.cityofportmoody.com) The rest of my time is spent doing contract programming and design work. I will download a snapshot of the development on Friday and try and take a look through it. Just a suggestion (and possibly a stupid one), but ISTM that it would be nice if there were script-fu scripts for the buttons and other images with text in them. As I understand it, although there are several translation teams working on Koha, they're not translating the images with English text on them because there's no easy way to do so. It'd be nice if all of the buttons could be generated automatically by the Gimp (or something) using a shell script. -- Andrew Arensburger Actually, these _do_ represent the arensb@ooblick.com opinions of ooblick.com! this is a good suggestion, and probably doable for certain charsets (perhaps all the latin languages). For some charsets the baseline may need to be adjusted manually, or a different font/font size will need to be used, so this cannot be completely automated. However, for the *-top.inc menu that Paul took out from the French translation, I do intend to write some script-fu (perhaps plus some Perl glue) some time; it would be unthinkable to manually generate 30 almost-identical gif files from xcf, esp. when layers need to be moved several times for every file being generated. Even if it is not possible to completely automate this process, it must at least be semi-automated. :-) The only problem with script-fu is that it seems to change with the gimp version. (My script-fu scripts broke when I upgraded from gimp 1.0 to 1.2, some long time ago. So when gimp 1.4 comes out, they will probably break again...) So perhaps we need to (also?) document how the gif files were generated. -- Ambrose LI Cheuk-Wing <a.c.li@ieee.org>
