I hope that a version of KOHA will be done for UNIMARC as well as MARC21. It is widely used in Europe, the Far East and developing countries particularly outside the Anglo-American world. Alan Hopkinson Chair, IFLA Permanent UNIMARC Committee

Before going further I was confused with Koha on "MARC tag structure admin for default MARC framework".
The label is in French only. Could I change it to English?
During install, you have choosen "UNIMARC". UNIMARC tables are in french only, where MARC21 tables are in english only.
Can I load UNIMARC English table up for Koha?
We, China and Taiwan library authorities, do not use MARC21 for non-English materials.
I hate to tell you that most of Chinese librarian can not understand French.

If the UNIMARC stuff need to be translated to English, I can try to do it; but I will need some directions since I haven't done anything related to Koha or library science for months (sorry again). If it is just the labels, I envision that we can convert the original strings to English, and let the normal translation process convert it back to French. Back when the Chinese translation was still worked on, this seemed to have the intended effect (translating the French strings to Chinese); the only problem with keeping original strings in French is that it can't be translated to English because English is not a real locale (it's more like the "default" locale). Or maybe someone might have a better idea. On Fri, Mar 03, 2006 at 10:09:53AM +0000, Alan Hopkinson wrote:

Dear All, I know nothing about French. I need a English UNIMARC stuff, then I could translate them into Chinese. The UNIMARC is in English originally. We do not have to translate it. However, the UNIMARC label in Koha is in French, which is translated from English. There is an official document "UNIMARC concise bibliographic format (1 Mar. 2002)" published by IFLA. http://www.ifla.org/VI/3/p1996-1/concise2.pdf I am sure Alan Hopkinson(chairperson of PUC) will provide UNIMARC file in editable format, while we asked. The Chinese version of UNIMARC should something like this one, CMARC, 2001, http://catweb.ncl.edu.tw/2-1-15.htm 2006/3/12, Ambrose Li <acli@ada.dhs.org>:

It's quite easy to have a version of UNIMARC in english :you just need to fill marc_subfield_structure and marc_tag_structure. How did we write UNIMARC as well as MARC21 files 3 years ago ? we had some volunteers that wrote a spreadsheet, with the following
columns : * tag value (200) * repeatible (1=yes, 0=no) * mandatory (1=yes, 0=no) * description (title & responsability)
and another one with : * tag value (200) * subfield value (a) * repeatible (1=yes, 0=no) * mandatory (1=yes, 0=no) * description (main title) If you send me such a file, I could easily include it in Koha (official release) HTH -- Paul POULAIN et Henri Damien LAURENT Consultants indépendants en logiciels libres et bibliothéconomie (http://www.koha-fr.org)
