I understand, but I am not sure what needs to be done in order to
remove a language. Better to leave this to someone who knows about
the internals of Pootle and the related tools we use.

this is a large project so i can send public invitations for interested parties (any age or level) time to time and ask for contribute. If koha keeps this, they may contribute to both "ta", "ta_LK" or arise other difficulties / problems.
We are from sri lanka. I am native tamil person / speaker and he's native sinhalese person / sinhala & tamil speaker. We have contributed to many projects as well.
You can ask us any other questions and check below details. or if you know who added it, i can discuss with him/her and solve their problems

A language admin can given other people the role of reviewers Which is needed for the people that will help you translate otherwise they will only be able to make suggestions and only you could accept them. Source: It needs a new dedicated thread on koha-translate as I don't have rights on the translation platform and some questions need clarification before deleting a language.
