Re: [Koha-translate] Translation very difficult if use some tags among text paragraph in html
Is it a limitation in the .po file structure that breaks the translations at the tags - or is it a configurations issue? If those who are comfortable with html and other code could export with intact sentences that could be helpful. (And yes that link might require a warning label for those just starting out) OR - is there a way to translate directly from the actual Koha interface? That could be highly useful when trying to iron out the quirks of a new translation. I know we have a few in sv-se stemming from the whole ”translating without context” issue. Kind regards/Viktor (meant for the list but accidentally replied only to Katrin)

Hi Hector,
I know exactly what you talk about - it's often really hard to make sense of those sentences that have been split by a <b> tag, a link or similar.
I am not sure we can totally avoid these constructs, but it's certainly something to keep in mind that can help make life easier for translators.
I'd love if we could find a way to parse those constructs better, so they can be translated as one string/entry.

Hi Koha Developers
I don't know if we can use another style when write down paragraphs; some html tags among paragraph, for example if we use <code> <abbr>, <strong>, <acronym> etc., are split in different entries in the po files, and this do the translation very hard, for example this bug <http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=14671>
In the new 3.22 exists another example:
koha-tmpl/intranet-tmpl/prog/en/modules/about.tt <http://about.tt>
lines 262-264
<td>You are missing the <strong><upload_path></strong> entry in your koha-conf.xml file. Please add it, pointing to the configured file upload directory for your Koha instance. Also note that you need to properly set the <strong>OPACBaseURL</strong> preference for the file upload plugin to work.</td>
The generated PO file
#: intranet-tmpl/prog/en/modules/about.tt:255 <http://about.tt:255> #: intranet-tmpl/prog/en/modules/about.tt:262 <http://about.tt:262> #, c-format msgid "You are missing the " msgstr "Falta la entrada "
#: intranet-tmpl/prog/en/modules/about.tt:255 <http://about.tt:255> #: intranet-tmpl/prog/en/modules/about.tt:262 <http://about.tt:262> #, c-format msgid "<upload_path>" msgstr "<upload_path>"
#: intranet-tmpl/prog/en/modules/about.tt:262 <http://about.tt:262> #, c-format msgid "" "entry in your koha-conf.xml file. Please add it, pointing to the configured " "file upload directory for your Koha instance. Also note that you need to " "properly set the " msgstr ""
#: intranet-tmpl/prog/en/modules/about.tt:264 <http://about.tt:264> #, c-format msgid "OPACBaseURL" msgstr "OPACBaseURL"
#: intranet-tmpl/prog/en/modules/about.tt:264 <http://about.tt:264> #, c-format msgid "preference for the file upload plugin to work. " msgstr ""
Finally this end up in a nonsensical translation
IMHO, If developers can really take into consideration not to use this kind of paragraphs and -if possible- modify the coding guidelines in wiki page to reflect this.
Or if there are another option to do life easy for translators?...
Regards

I suspect more a limitation of the scripts that generate our .po files maybe. Parsing the strings out of the templates is quite a complicated matter, so not sure how and if that can be improved. I found 2 bugs with examples I had reported a little while ago: Bug 14556 - Improve translatability of strings including links http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=14556 Bug 14459 - Marking parts of text bold is bad for translation http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=14459 Katrin Am 02.11.2015 um 09:21 schrieb Viktor.Sarge@regionhalland.se:
