This feature is being (has been?) developed by Emiliano Marmonti of
Antorchas-UNLP Physics Proyect.  Details and screenshots are here:

I'm not sure what the status of their project is.  In any case it will take time
to integrate their work once they've shared it.  It looks great, though.
