hi paul,
thanks for the advice, making changes to the 'updatedatabase' script is new to
me :)

yes, i have created 2 tables ('labels' and 'labels_conf'), and modified them
between stable releases.

as you recommend, the 2 new tables are currently being ADDed by the
'updatedatabase' script, with no field update after the ADD.

is this ok?
