The 008 plugin fails to read the first 6 positions and store them for use if
they have already been assigned for the original record creation date.	It also
fails to assign the first 6 positions to the current date if the first 6
positions are empty.  The plugin will only set a record creation date if the
user manually sets the values for the first six positions in the textbox
designated for automatic filling each time the plugin is invoked.  If the
plugin is not filled manually, nothing is set for the first six positions and
they disappear as the 008 values are shifted six positions to the left.

The original bug report had only tested the case where the first six positions
were blank but this bug is manifest any time the plugin is run whether the
first six positions were blank or not.
