Here's what was going on: If the contactname and contactfirstname form fields
in memberentry.tmpl are "disabled" and "readonly," the contactname and
contactfirstname are not passed to the script to be saved in the database. If
the form fields are only "readonly," the information is passed to the script.
Is the data supposed to be passed to the script or not? At some point the
template changed from displaying the guarantor information in a disabled form
field called "guarantorinfo" to displaying it in contactname and
contactfirstname. Is the intention to save guarantor info to the contactname
and contactfirstname fields in the database?
