This is major, imo.  At the very least, a warning should be generated before
    allowing such an intensive report to run.  Better would be to fix/optimize
some
    of these queries.
    Significantly,
    the statistics wizard for catalog does a call number search to populate a
    dropdown that is very nasty on a big data set.
    the overdues report is similarly nefarious. 
    I would like to systematically go through the canned reports and add
default
    date limiters or indexes as appropriate to add either warnings, fixes or
    workarounds.
