Good point about records having many fathers (we would say parents). Since I
don't have personal experience with this kind of authority structure I don't
know what kind of data is to be expected.

As for the question of whether this belongs on the left, I would compare the
hierarchy to the search results' facets display rather than to biblio views.
That's why I suggested the left-hand column.
