Challenge prompt and item catalog listing screenshots

For an item with a checked out disposition, that is trying to be checked out,
the circulation check out function warns the user, and challenges with a
prompt:
Item XYZ checked out to : patron ABC. Check in and check out?

Clicking the "Yes, check out" button checks the item out for the current
patron, but does not check the item in first.  This results in the item being
checked out for both patrons.

What would happen if an item was returned and reshelved without being checked
in (for whatever reason, e.g. missed), and the item was subsequently checked
out?  The original patron is still on the hook for the item, even though she
returned it.  The main catalog page for the item lists its disposition as being
checked out by the original patron.
