So the overhead doesnot seem to be so insane.

This is meant to remove the **display** of those characters only.
Had we have mod_perl enabled we would have use filters.
But it is not possible.

Your patch would have change data without warning or noticing that.

We could also have had a special GetBiblioRecord for **display** to remove
those characters from the biblio before creating the page. But this solution
would have had quite a big impact on the code.

We chose to propose this solution in order to solve the problem the more
efficient way and the more convenient way.
