This no longer seems to be a bug.

I setup Ubuntu 8.10 + Perl 5.10 and installed:

libmarc-charset-perl_1.0-1_all.deb                 
libmarc-record-perl_2.0.0-1_all.deb                
libmarc-xml-perl_0.88-1_all.deb                 
libsms-send-perl_0.05-1_all.deb  

And was able to add books through a Z39.50 search just fine.

I was able to add "0324171897" from z39.50 @ library of congress just fine.

All tested w/ git head.
