The sorts on the columns in lists only sort within the 20 items displayed
instead of sorting the whole list. So, if I have a 4 page list and I want to
know what is newest, I have to sort by date on each page. This should sort the
whole list by date regardless of how many pages there are.

I suggest a preference to how you would like the list sorted. Either at list
creation or as a system wide option.
