We noticed that when checking out an item, spaces are ignored or sanitized. 
When checking in that same item, the spaces lead to an "item not found"
message.  This inconsistent behavior.

Another example - a new library hand-typed their item barcodes into Koha with
spaces (0 003 000 1234) and were able to check out the item to a patron using a
scanner gun, but then could not check the item in when it was returned.

We will let you pick which behavior you want Koha to use, we just want it to be
consistent.
