We had this back when we had harley (it's one of the very few things that our
librarians liked about it). 

I do not recall any confusion on their part about how the payments/writeoffs
were handled. During my testing, it seemed clear to me what each button did,
without excessive explanation.

That said, I'll work up a patch for the help file that attempts to explain how
everything works, which should satisfy Ian's (b).
