I'm a little confused, but it might be my lack of understanding of how this
works.

My assumption is:

__ZEBRA_MARC_FORMAT__ comes out as marc21, normarc, whathaveyou. However usmarc
is the binary MARC format, not the schema that lies on top of that. So,
wouldn't changing "usmarc" to "normarc", or even "marc21" break things?

However, clearly this is wrong, I just don't know what the right version is.
