Without your patch I can order items, and with your patch it is not possible.
So I would suggest to leave the status as it is for now. I retried it now on
another OS with FF:

When creating new basket and clicking on new order from empty record:
    js error: additem.js line 60 node is null
On the next neworderempty.pl screen, I have one item but quantity=0 (also after
refreshing).
At the same time I have two repeated js errors:
    js error: document.getElementById("") is null

If I had more time, I would love to start debugging this extensively but
unfortunately ... 
Hope you can find the source of this problem even faster as patch author ;)
