Ok, indeed we have to system preferences controlling this feature:
UseBranchTransferLimits (yes/no)
BranchTransferLimitsType (to select between ccode and item type)

As you suggested, it could be enough to display a message stating that
UseBranchTransferLimits is ON/OFF.
