Though I tested the functionality of 
attachment 12666 for an upgrade from 3.6.x to 3.8.x,
I was also able to apply the same patch to master (circa 2012-10-04)
and is inserted the update statement cleanly for
installer/data/mysql/updatedatabase.pl

So, someone should QA it against master as well to address folks who upgrade
from <3.8.x to >3.8.x
