My kludge was to substitute this:

      <xslo:attribute name="z:id">
        <xslo:value-of select="biblioitemnumber"/>
      </xslo:attribute>

Not a thought out solution but assuming anything in the MARC record will be
unique (even if theoretically so) is groundless.
