This patch had already been QAed by me a long time ago. It also has been
validated by Jared, then reverted because of a jenkins failure.

The new follow-up is about test, and Bernardo has validated it once again.

I think it's fair to switch to passed QA, so switching (Galen, this patch is a
pain to rebase, please don't let it wait)
