I'm interested in testing either/both of these patches, and have grabbed a copy
of Matthias's code for a start and rebased it onto 3.12 (I don't think it would
be too difficult to rebase onto master, but 3.12 was what I had to hand).

Could one of your put up a test plan please, including any apache steps you've
undertaken?
