We're running into the exact same issues here on AD 2008. We've tried
with/without bind.

Is there a way to get this working in the meantime? We're running the tarball
version so reverting patches aren't as simple as with Git installs.
I updated to 3.12.1 and after a bit of testing it all seemed fine because we
didn't have any new users. But once we did, we started getting failed logins
everywhere.

I would request this be marked as a blocker and that it be removed from all
future versions until this is fixed.
