Chris and I discussed this bug today and he's agreed to update the patch series
for master; I intend to push DBIC support unless some showstopper comes up
during QA and testing.

Consequently, I think you can safely proceed with further work on bug 8628
under the assumption that DBIC support will be present at some point in the
forseeable future.
