OK. I tested the following now:
With patch 1 only (and deleted maxpickupdelay): Crash just like Kyle mentioned.
With patch 2 applied too (still undef maxpickupdelay): No crash!
So my assumption seems to be correct about the deleted pref :)

Don't forget to restore the maxpickupdelay value if you should want to test
this too..
