I don't like the idea of letting this patch entering into Koha. It means that
for UNIMARC biblio-zebra-indexdefs.xsl will not be deduced automatically from
biblio-koha-indexdefs.xml, like for MARC21. There is a risk that a library
modify it indexes XML config file and overwrite you handcrafted XSL file.

Could you point specifically a portion of your XSL file that deal with coded
fields substrings?
